A recently published report in Patently Apple hints at no physical home buttons in upcoming iPhone 8. It has been rumored that upcoming iPhone 8 may come without physical buttons. iPhone 8 will be an all-glass device with OLED. The touch-only buttons make an absolute sense because how would you make an all-glass iPhone 8 with physical home buttons? So, it is a possibility that iPhone 8 may come without physical buttons. We do not know whether it will be easy or difficult for Apple to replace the power and volume button with a touch-sensitive button, but it can be adapted as Mi 5s has the same design.

It is only conjectured right now, take it with just a pinch of salt. So far, every other day news suggesting that upcoming iPhone 8 could feature vertical dual lens rear camera, OLED display, an all-glass exterior, A11 ARM processor, and wireless charging technology. It is going to be an interesting device with a completely overhauled design.
Apple is currently working on ten different prototypes, and we are not sure about how the final product will look like.
However, It is confirmed that there will be three models of iPhone in 2017. Two of them will feature Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), and the most upgraded version would feature Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED).

It is also possible that the upcoming iPhone models would not have any plastic material. It could be all glass body with no physical buttons. It could be like the MI5 design which comes with the home button and fingerprint sensor combo. It is not difficult to adapt for Apple if they want to come up with touch sensitive button for iPhone 8 in 2017.
