Apple could be preparing to ditch the iPhone 8 home button if the recent patent of a ‘fingerprint reading touch screen’ is any sign of the Cupertino-based tech giant 2017 plans. The latest reports are suggesting that Apple might include fingerprint scanner on iPhone 8 display.
Apple Might Include Fingerprint Scanner On iPhone 8 Display
The patent first spotted by Apple Insider. We can see that the patent is explaining “interactive display panel with IR diodes” and it would use a combination of infrared sensing technology and infrared emitting LED. It will allow Apple to place fingerprint scanner directly into the phone display rather than the presently used home button of iPhone 7.
The patent of was first filed in a few years back in 2014 by the company LuxVue, which is known for micro-LED display. However, it was reassigned to Cupertino-based tech giant after it acquired the company. Though, this is not the very first time we have seen Apple is looking for fingerprint reading touch screen technology.
Last year, Apple filed another patent which indicated that the company was thinking to move the Touch ID from the home button.
By incorporating the home button and fingerprint scanner on the phone display, the iPhone 8 would have a lot more space at the bottom of the front screen. It would allow Apple to make an extended edge to edge display and more aesthetic than before.
Rumors about ditching the home button are circulating for a while now, and this news about micro-LED technology would allow for that.
So it is ambiguous whether Apple will use this technology in its next iPhone or not. However, we are confident that Apple will come up with many new features and upgraded specifications because Apple is celebrating its 10th anniversary of manufacturing iPhone.
